Maverick

A wonderful, caring woman has adopted Maverick!!  He is going to have a very loving home!

I’m called Maverick, and I'm a handsome yellow male. The vets think I am between 2 and 3 years old.

I was found wandering the streets and alleys until I was taken to the animal shelter in San Angelo.

I was really hungry, but healthy in all other respects.

I was taken to my foster home on May 6, and I am so very happy now!  I am getting meals and treats, and I have two friends I can play with.

My foster Mom throws toys out in the yard, and I retrieve them and bring them back to her.

I am getting better at dropping them so she can throw them back out again.  I don’t know many commands yet, but we are working on them.

I still feel a little insecure so I have one of the toys with me most of the time.  But each day, I am feeling better, and I am needing the toys less and less.....

I love to go on walks with my foster mom.  She puts me on a leash, and I am doing real well.

I am such a loving dog, and I would be so loyal, appreciative, grateful, and a wonderful friend to a forever family!!

Summer - Adopted!

Beautiful, Sweet Summer has been adopted!!

Summer was picked up as a stray by a local shelter.

She is approximately 1.5 - 2 years old and has a very light yellow coat.....she looks almost white.

We named her Summer for her sunny disposition.

She enjoys being around people, children, and other dogs.

She loves to play with other dogs, fetch the ball or toy, and splash in water.

When she is not playing, then she is content with laying at your feet.

She isn't that great on the leash, but that will change after her foster mom works with her on a few basic commands.

She rides well in the car. Summer also goes in the crate without a problem.

Summer has personality plus!!!  You couldn't ask for a more loving lifelong companion.

Tess

Playful Tess has been adopted by a fantastic family!!

Tess was saved from an area shelter...

She is about six months old and every bit a playful puppy.

Tess is crate trained, walks pretty well on a leash, and is housebroken.

She gets along well with other dogs, especially if they like to play.

She is in the fundamental stages of learning how to retrieve and “give” the Frisbee and ball.

Tess is eager to please and extremely loving but beware! If something is on the floor it is hers!

Tess is looking for an active family who likes outdoor activities and is willing to help her reach her full potential.

She is quite a little lady!

Cado
Sweet Cado

Cado has found a Forever Family!!!

We are pleased that our dear Cado
has found his Forever Family and
will be living in Plano!

Lovable Cado

Cado is 15 months old and was turned in to a shelter by his owner.  The owner said she could not afford to care for him any longer.

He is a very sweet boy and gets along well with other dogs and children. He has very good house manners. He is housebroken and crate trained.

Cado LOVES to play with other dogs and chase squirrels.  Cado’s foster mom has three other Labs. He hangs around with them all day and needs little supervision.

He is especially fond of the 20 month old Lab in the foster’s home. They play chase in the backyard and curl up together under a desk or in a crate when they have worn themselves out.

Sweet Cado

His forever home should have a yard for him to play in. It would also be nice if there was another young dog for him to play with.

All in all, Cado is a very well adjusted dog who captured the hearts of the Humane Society volunteers in the shelter where he was taken. He adjusted to his foster home in just a couple of days and he is a delight to have around.

Duke II

Duke II is so lucky!  He has been adopted by a wonderful couple who
have tons of love to give and another Lab for him to play with!!

Duke is an extremely lovable dog. He LOVES everyone and everything and thinks everyone wants to be his best friend.

He is extremely smart and loves to be in the middle of all fun and excitement.  Duke is a family dog and is fairly calm and gentle around children.

Duke enjoys being petted, but if given the choice, would rather PLAY!

He will retrieve anything you throw for as long as you will throw it! He also enjoys playing tug-of-war with his ropes.

Duke loves to go on walks, go for car rides, and swim in the lake (but is too scared to jump of a dock or boat). He’s never swam in a pool, but would probably love to if given the chance.

Duke knows many tricks and LOVES to perform for an audience and for a “good boy treat”!

He is so talented!! He can:

  • Sit
  • Stay
  • (lay) Down
  • Crawl
  • Roll (over)
  • Speak
  • Shake
  • Goes "in his Kennel" on command
  • Give “5”
  • Give “10”
  • Hold (a treat on his nose)
  • Wave
  • Play dead (when you “shoot” him with your finger and say “bang”)!!!!

Duke is friendly with other dogs and enjoys playing with them, but chases cats when given the chance.

Duke walks extremely well on his leash and after the initial excitement of going for a walk dies down he won’t pull. A firm reminder to “walk” keeps him right at your side.

Duke loves looking out a front window or door and only barks when someone approaches the house.

Duke loves to meet new people and has a hard time not jumping up to greet them in the face.

Duke is so well behaved and completely house and crate trained.  He will go immediately into his crate when given the command “in your kennel”.

He stands by the door when he needs to go out and will cry when he’s ready to come back in.

Duke has never been allowed on the furniture and sleeps snuggled next to a pillow by his daddy’s bed.

Duke will sit at your feet and be calm, or play as long as you like.  At 4 years old, he is a terrific balance between puppy and adult dog.  He is just a fantastic dog!

Bear - ADOPTED!

This 100 pounds of love has been adopted!!

Bearinger (nickname Bear) is a large, laid back grizzly bear!

He is 10 years old and weighs in at around 100 pounds.

He is well beyond the puppy stage and doesn’t get into mischief.

He likes to eat, sleep, go for walks in the evening and have people love on him.

He is very good with children.

Bear is, of course, housebroken and he has very good house manners.

He is not a barker but he will let out a big bass “woof” if he needs to go outside.

Bear is in very good health and is current on all vaccinations.

He has several good years left and will be an excellent companion for senior citizens or for families with very small children who don’t want the natural exuberance of a younger Lab.

Duke

Sweet Duke has been adopted by the best family ever!

Wonderful Duke

My name is Duke, and I am about 5 years old. My original "parents" were going on vacation, took me to the animal shelter, dropped me off, and told the shelter workers to go ahead and put me to sleep. I don't know why, but I'm glad they didn't because I wasn't tired!

I am so happy to be at my new foster parents' house with my two foster brothers! I even have my own room where I like to eat. I like my room so much that sometimes I go in there to catch a few winks when I get so tired from playing with everyone!

I am very good about letting my foster parents know when I need to go outside.

Sometimes I chase the squirrels and look at the birds, but my favorite pastime is sitting or lying by my foster mom or dad.

I love tummy rubs and leash walks, and I like to ride in the car as long as I am not left anywhere alone without my new family.

Adorable Duke

My manners are excellent, and I am easy to handle. I can “sit” very well, but am still in the process of perfecting my “stay” and “down” commands. Food really motivates me and I am learning to take treats with a softer mouth. I especially love soft plush and rubber toys to carry around and chew.

My foster parents say that words simply can't describe how wonderful I am. Aw, shucks, they are only saying that because it is true!!

I would love to meet you! If you would like to meet me as well, please contact Lone Star Labrador Retriever Rescue. The contact information is listed at the bottom of this page.

Sincerely, Duke…

Molly

Sweet Molly has found a Forever Home!!
She has been adopted by a caring & loving family!

Molly is a beautiful 80 pound female who we think is about 3 to 3l/2 years old.

She is very friendly and affectionate and loves to be around people.  She is also very good with children and other dogs.

It doesn't take much for her to roll over to have her tummy tickled.  She has good house manners, but it is obvious that no one has ever worked with her from a training standpoint.

Molly was treated for heart worms in early May and will be spayed in early June.

While she is recuperating from the heart worm treatment she is boarding at the K-9 University where she is receiving obedience training.  By mid-June Molly will be ready for adoption and will be a wonderful addition to a family who is willing to continue re-enforcing what she learned at the K-9 University.
